Mbale Tigers U-13 Sets Sights on Victory at Nairobi’s Wandera Cup

March 26, 2026

The future of Ugandan table tennis is on the move. The Mbale Tigers Table Tennis Club U-13 team has officially departed for Nairobi, Kenya, where they will compete in the highly anticipated Wandera Cup from March 27 to 29, 2026.

This marks an important milestone for the young squad, as they step onto a regional stage that promises both stiff competition and invaluable learning opportunities. For many of the players, the tournament represents their first major international exposure—an experience that could shape their development for years to come.

Head coach Jude Mutete expressed optimism ahead of the team’s departure, emphasizing the broader significance of the competition beyond just results.

“This tournament will provide valuable exposure for our young players. It’s an opportunity for them to test their skills against strong opponents and also compete for medals,” Mutete noted.

The team traveling to Nairobi features a promising group of rising talents: Liang Shirat, Ferrera Prosper, Osinya Brilliant, and Nabuloli Peace. Each of these players has demonstrated dedication, discipline, and growing technical ability, earning their place on the squad through consistent performance.

Their participation in the Wandera Cup highlights Mbale Tigers’ continued commitment to grassroots development and nurturing young athletes. Over the years, the club has built a reputation for identifying and developing talent, and this trip is yet another step in that long-term vision.

Beyond competition, the experience in Nairobi is expected to expose the players to different playing styles, enhance their mental toughness, and build confidence on the international stage. Such exposure is critical in bridging the gap between local and elite-level performance.

As the tournament unfolds, all eyes will be on how these young athletes rise to the occasion. Whether they return with medals or simply with lessons learned, one thing is certain—the journey itself is a victory for the growth of table tennis in Uganda.

The Mbale Tigers U-13 team carries not just rackets and ambition, but also the hopes of a nation eager to see its next generation of sporting talent shine.
