The future of Ugandan table tennis continues to shine brightly as Mbale Tigers Table Tennis Club delivered a dominant performance under the guidance of coach Coach Mutete during the recent youth competitions ahead of the prestigious Kibabi Open Championship in Bungoma, Kenya.
The Mbale Tigers youngsters stamped their authority across multiple age categories, collecting top positions and proving why the club is rapidly becoming one of the region’s strongest table tennis development centers.
In the Boys Under-20 category, rising star Wangota Victor emerged champion after an impressive display of skill, composure, and attacking brilliance. Kenya’s Okumu Leon finished second while Osinya Brilliant secured third place to complete a highly competitive podium.
The girls’ division was equally dominated by Mbale Tigers talent as Nabulondera Shamim clinched the Girls Under-20 title ahead of teammate Liang Shirat, with Kauda Raihana finishing third to give the club a clean sweep of the category.
The club’s strength in youth development was further highlighted in the Boys Under-13 event where Masolo Rahim captured first place, followed by teammate Osinya Brilliant in second position, while Kenya’s Okumu Leon settled for third.
In the Girls Under-13 category, Liang Shirat once again showcased her exceptional talent by taking first place ahead of Nabulondera Shamim, while Apio Mary completed the podium in third position.
The strong performances come as Mbale Tigers intensify preparations for the Kibabi Open Championship taking place from May 9th to 10th, 2026 at Kibabi University. The touring squad includes Masolo Rahim, Lukoye Ziyadi, Wangota Victor, Osinya Brilliant, Nabulondera Shamim, Kauda Raihana, Apio Mary, Kiiza Francis, Ferrera Promise, Mugabe Keron, and Liang Shirat.
According to the club management, the tour is aimed at giving the young athletes greater international exposure, competitive experience, and skill development opportunities as they continue to grow into elite players capable of representing Uganda on bigger stages.
With discipline, talent, and strong leadership from Coach Mutete, Mbale Tigers continue to raise the flag of Eastern Uganda high, building a new generation of table tennis stars ready to compete across East Africa and beyond.
